Current Readings: Soul Cravings

Soul Cravings by Erwin McManus is a book that I have currently finished reading. It discusses how each of us has a unique fingerprint of God on our souls. As creations of God, we have intrinsic cravings for intimacy, love, destiny, ambition, meaning and truth. Erwin McManus discusses those cravings and opens discussions of how each of these cravings can teach us something about ourselves and our relationship with God.

It's an awesome book that I'm still digesting. For more info go to www.mosaic.org and hook up to the current podcast series on Soul Cravings...

Ways NOT to Celebrate Valentine's Day...

Here are some ways that I feel will make your Valentine's Day less fulfilling:

1.) Make it ALL ABOUT your significant other.

Instead: Let's face it: you love her (if you are a her, you love him) but they should not be the focus of this day in which we celebrate love. Take a minute (together) to thank God for HIS LOVE, and reflect on how much he unconditionately and passionately loves you. God made us in his image; we love because HE LOVED US FIRST!

2.) Give her chocolates and flowers.

Instead: OK fellas. First of all, if you think this is the only way to properly display your affection, then don't give her anything AT ALL! Do something that shows you really love her and care for her! Make a scavenger hunt for her, or take her to her favorite restaurant and surprise her with a photo alblum! BE CREATIVE!

3.) Make St. Valentine's Day a "I'll love you for today, because I have to day."

Instead: Christ does not show his love for us only on Sunday's or Easter, why should we choose to show our love (which is a reflection of His love) only one day out of the year? Use this as an opportunity to rededicate your love to somebody, or make a covenant to ALWAYS show your love for somebody whenever you can...not just today.

4.) Forget about God.

Instead: Today should be all about GOD! Use today to show His love to everyone! THANK GOD FOR HIS LOVE! Thank Him for His intimacy with us, thank Him for the relationships we have with others and ask Him to bless those relationships and our lives with a heart of LOVE and SERVICE.

Weekend in Review

This weekend, I didn't do as well as I would have liked on tips at the coffee shop, but that's cool 'cause all was accomplished that had to be accomplished this weekend.

This weekend at NewSpring was...well, PHENOMENAL. Catch the message here.

At Ignite, we had a Super-Bowl theme. We also got to bond with our students via ingesting large quantities of pizza. John Flowers gets props for the awesome blind-folded-taste-testing game and kudos to the inaugural Phenomenal Award winners!(Last picture, courtesy of Alden Ellis)

Also, the Colts won the Super-Bowl. The party at Eddie and John's house was pretty cool, so cool points to them! Commercials weren't that great, but hey! that's what FNL and Ignite Videos are for!
